ITFC 0-3 Brighton January 1st 2013
| Hungover! |
With the games coming thick and fast over the Christmas/New Year period this was probably one game too many for a jaded looking Ipswich side, some of whom looked like they had been on a bender the night before! Following two good away wins at Charlton & Wolves, they were brought back down to earth with a bang by a well organised Brighton side whom I wouldn't be surprised to see end up in the playoffs. I can only remember Albion creating four chances during the match but they managed to use them well, whereas we seemed to be very short on ideas.
There were no "farewell or is just goodbye?" goals from DJ Campbell who was playing the last game of his very successful loan spell before returning to QPR. Daryl Murphy had a shot from a tight angle well blocked by summer target keeper Tomasz Kuszczak in the first half. With the score at two nil to the visitors midway through the second half Mick McCarthy decided to replace the front two with Jason Scotland and Michael Chopra, I got the feeling that there would be no goals forthcoming from Town and so it proved to be right as Albion scored a third just to complete a miserable start to the new year for the home fans.
With players cup tied or ineligible due to their loan deals there will be a different looking Town side that take on the out of sorts Aston Villa in Birmingham next Saturday in the FA Cup.
Don't Leave Me This Way by Harold Melvyn & The Blue Notes - a disappointing end to DJ Campbell's loan spell and the Christmas break.
